I tried twice to upload a video of the great turtle race just for fun, but it won't upload, so you will just have to do without, sorry! :-) I know, you're disappointed.
Here's a still shot instead. I think there were probably 50 turtles in town that day, if not more. They had multiple heats based on the age of the turtle's owner. :o)
And here's a trick roper. I had a video of this too. This guy taught me government.
There's something for everyone in Ochelata on the 4th of July, so if you're in the area, you should come! There was a parade, turtle race, bike races, water balloon toss, "Wild West" show, trick roper, horse shoe competition, and softball tournament. In years past, we've had Native American drummers and dancers, live music, and other entertainment. One of the local churches has a chicken dinner for all who want some, but we usually get Grandpa's chicken, and it also is open to anyone who shows up at his door. :-D Whether you're family, friend, or strangers that were met and invited that day, all are welcome. This year he fried somewhere between 55 and 60 pounds of chicken, and it ALL got eaten! We also have other things like cheesecake, cookies, watermelon, chips, just whatever people decide to bring. Nobody leaves hungry! Then of course there are always fireworks at the end of the day. It's always a good day.

Hi Jessica! Wow, I am loving blogland. It is awesome to keep up with everyone's happenings and whereabout's. It's funny you mention a big reunion-Aunt Ruth commented on one of my blog's requesting a big reunion also...I think spring 2009 would be a perfect time...let me do some thinking and see what i can come up with.
So proud of you!
